Commercial Carpeting for your Indianapolis Office

Carpet is an investment in comfort, warmth, and style. It also reduces the incidence of slips and falls and retains warm air longer, an energy conservation benefit.

New varieties and all Mohawk pads used by ProSand are LEED certified, made of post-consumer recycled material and are CRI green label certified for improved indoor air quality.

Plus, most people appreciate carpet for its ability to act as a sound buffer, absorbing the noise and echoes of equipment, sound systems, even our own voices.

And if well maintained, carpet has a long and beautiful lifecycle.

ProSand carries carpeting lines from the innovators in design and durability, including Mohawk, Shaw, and Stainmaster. Each manufacturer offers a wide range of colors, styles and pricing, plus stain and soil warranties they stand behind.

Facility Requirements

According to The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) there are some important things to consider when narrowing down your options, including:

  • Type of facility and area being carpeted
  • How long will the carpet be used
  • What type of dirt will be tracked in
  • Will there be exposure to harsh chemicals or intense sunlight
  • What will be the frequency of spills
  • Will there be a lot of traffic, wheelchairs, carts and dollies
  • Remodel or new install
  • Access to existing subfloor

Carpet has become more and more common in institutional settings like healthcare facilities and schools as well as hotels and retail locations.

The warmth and comfort of carpeting has the ability to influence the way patients, children, and customers feel in a space, something that has become more and more important. Carpet is also a valuable asset to common areas or hallways where it can absorb noise and reduce slips and falls.

“A 2003 IICRC STUDY FOUND THAT, ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, HARD SURFACE FLOORS REQUIRE TWO AND ONE-HALF TIMES MORE CLEANING TIME THAN CARPET, AND CLEANING SUPPLIES WERE ABOUT SEVEN TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE FOR VINYL FLOORS THAN FOR CARPETED FLOORS.”
– THE CARPET AND RUG INSTITUTE

Carpet Specifications

The carpet type or construction you choose will influence its overall look and performance. Once you consider how and where you will use the carpet, including the level of traffic, moisture, spills, direct sunlight and expected lifecycle, you can match a carpet style to these needs and the kind of aesthetic you’re looking for.

Colors

Generally solid colors show more wear and soil. Patterns like heathers, tweeds, and linear, geometric or organic designs are effective at disguising wear and tear.

Cushion

Many commercial carpets are applied directly to the subfloor with adhesive and no cushion. For spaces that would benefit from a little extra resilience, acoustic/thermal insulation and comfort, a cushion (fiber, rubber or polyurethane foam) can be very effective.

Performance Level

There are many factors that contribute to carpet lifecycle and performance, including yarn size, density and gauge, something ProSand can help you determine based on individual manufacturers.

Carpet Styles

Carpet tiles have become a favorite of designers and a growing segment of commercial spaces. Styles run the gamut from traditional to eclectic and edgy and multiple styles can be staggered or arranged in patterns. Tiles can also be swapped out to change the look or solve the problem of a stubborn stain or other damage.

Dense, low pile height and loop-pile carpet is best for high-traffic areas and cut pile constructions that are variegated or patterned work well in light to medium traffic areas.

A ProSand design consultant can recommend styles that have done well in previous applications, the newest and most resilient lines and unique alternatives to traditional choices.
