PROSAND-CARPET

Choosing Carpet for Your Indianapolis Home

Carpet is an investment in comfort, warmth and style for your Indianapolis home. It can provide a cozy place to sit, play or lounge and it retains warm air longer, an energy conservation benefit.

New varieties and all Mohawk pads used by ProSand are LEED certified, made of post-consumer recycled material and are CRI green label certified for improved indoor air quality.

Plus, we find that many homeowners also appreciate carpet for its ability to act as a sound buffer, absorbing the noise and echoes of big screen TVs, sound systems, even our own voices.

Where to Begin

Carpet has come a long way since conventional loop pile (yarn in uncut loops). Homeowners can make choices that blend with their surroundings or become a focal point. Texture can change the look of the room and so can interchangeable carpet tiles.

Carpet Styles

Berber

A popular choice that can be both longwearing and elegant. Berber tufts are looped and aligned in rows (sometimes loosely, sometimes more tightly) for a clean, uniform look. Larger loops and tufts can be lush and distinctive, but generally collapse and look worn-out quicker. The smaller the loop the better the wear.

Recommended with caution to homeowners with small children or pets as Berber can snag and run and is difficult to repair.

Cut Pile Berber

Because it does not have loops, cut pile is not a true Berber. But this low, plush lookalike is variegated or speckled for a multi-colored overall appearance. The light base with darker flecks throughout is excellent at concealing regular wear.

Friezé

The stylish workhouse of carpet, friezé has very tightly twisted tufts and wears extremely well, lasting up to 15 years or more. A casual, popular choice for heavy traffic areas that reduces footprint and vacuum marks. Typically more expensive than plush styles, but a unique blend of style and function.

Saxony

A cut pile carpet with a relatively dense, erect configuration. Well-defined individual tuft tips work well in traditional interiors. Often found in living and dining rooms.

Sculptured

A mixture of high and low pile fibers arranged in a certain configuration or design. The tall fiber loops are cut while the shorter pieces remain looped. The height differences create highly textured patterns in endless styles and colors.

Plush

Still the most popular carpet style in homes today, plush is normally one solid color and has a smooth, even pile height. During manufacturing, the tufts are sheared to make the pile perfectly flat. Because of this, plush does show footprints and vacuum marks. Nylon versions clean easily and will wear well if properly maintained. The higher the face weight (the number of ounces of fiber per square yard), the longer the life span.

Textured Plush

Often features more than one color and varying tuft heights, reducing footprint and vacuum marks. Textured plush comes in a variety of color combinations and runs about the same price as the even pile plush style.

Carpet Tiles

A favorite of designers, makeover shows and do-it-yourselfers, carpet tiles offer modular design, flexibility and practicality. Styles run the gamut from traditional to eclectic and edgy and multiple styles can be staggered or arranged in patterns. Tiles can also be swapped out to change the look or solve the problem of a stubborn stain or other damage.
